Yes. DFCU members can hold both personal and business accounts under one membership. Yes. DFCU is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency. Member deposits are insured up to at least $250,000 per account, backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government. NCUA insurance is the credit union equivalent of FDIC insurance – your money is just as protected. Members can use the NCUA Share Insurance Estimator at mycreditunion.gov to calculate their specific coverage.

Switching to DFCU is straightforward. Start by opening your new DFCU checking account online or at any branch — you’ll need a government-issued ID and a $20 minimum deposit. Once your account is open, update your direct deposit with your employer using DFCU’s routing number (072486791) and your new account number. Next, redirect any recurring payments, like subscriptions, utilities, or insurance, to your new account. DFCU’s Switch Kit walks you through each step and includes a pre-written letter to help you notify your employer and billers. Open an account today!
It’s easy! Simply call 888.336.2700 or visit your nearest branch and let us know you’d like a Cash Back Checking account. Your account number will remain the same and no new debit card is needed.

What is DFCU Financial Cash Back?
Cash Back is DFCU Financial’s way of sharing profits directly with the members who make the credit union strong. Each year, eligible members receive a deposit straight into their account — no application, no redemption, no catch. DFCU Financial has paid Cash Back every year since 2007, returning more than $511 million to members over 20 years.
Am I eligible for Cash Back?
Eligibility depends on your age (as of December 31 of the prior year) and your average yearly loan and/or deposit balance with DFCU Financial:
- Members 26 and older: average yearly balance of at least $5,000
- Members 18–25: average yearly balance of at least $1,000
- Members 0–17: average yearly balance of at least $100
You must also be a member on the Cash Back deposit date to receive your payout.
Early Pay gives you access to eligible direct deposits as soon as DFCU Financial receives them, often up to two days before your scheduled payday. It’s not a loan and there’s no fee. It’s simply your money, available sooner.
How it works:
Early Pay is automatic for eligible deposits, so there’s nothing extra to enroll in once your direct deposit is set up. When your employer/administrator sends your deposit to DFCU early, we make the funds available after the payment is processed. Timing can vary. Deposits depend on when your employer/administrator submits the payment file, and weekends or holidays may delay availability.
Open a DFCU Financial retail checking or savings account and set up a payroll direct deposit.
Provide your employer/administrator with the completed direct deposit form. You will need to provide the DFCU Financial routing number, which is 072486791, and your checking account number.
*Early Pay – You may receive a direct deposit up to two days early with Early Pay if you have a retail checking or savings account with us and a recurring qualifying direct deposit up to $10,000. Early access to direct deposit funds depends on the timing of the submission of the payment file from the payer/administrator.
Personal Savings
You can open a Regular Savings Account with as little as $5. A Money Market Account requires a $2,500 minimum opening deposit. Share Certificate minimums vary by term. Youth savings accounts can be opened with $5.
Yes. DFCU offers youth accounts for members ages 10–17. Youth accounts can easily and safely be managed via DFCU Online or DFCU Mobile, giving you and your child the tools to:
- Check account balances in real-time
- Monitor and track spending
- Deposit a check anytime, anywhere with Mobile Deposit
- eDocuments: review monthly statements online
Simply call the Member Service Center at 888.336.2700 to open a Kids account. You’ll need one of the following types of ID listed below:

The change is transferred into an account of your choice each day. It’s a great way to help boost your (or your kids’) savings.

Personal Certificates & IRAs
A share certificate is the credit union equivalent of a bank CD (certificate of deposit). Both lock in a fixed rate for a set term. The key difference: share certificates are offered by member-owned credit unions like DFCU, meaning earnings stay within the member community rather than going to outside shareholders.
Early withdrawal from a share certificate typically results in a penalty – usually a portion of the dividends earned. The penalty amount depends on your term. If you think you may need access before maturity, a money market account may be a better fit.
Minimum opening deposits vary by term and rate tier. Visit our rates page for current requirements.
The main difference is when you pay taxes. A Traditional IRA may reduce your taxable income now — but you pay taxes on withdrawals in retirement. A Roth IRA uses after-tax money upfront, so qualified withdrawals in retirement are tax-free. The right choice depends on your current income, expected retirement income, and tax strategy. DFCU offers two types:
Traditional IRA:
- Best for members who expect to be in a lower tax bracket in retirement.
- Contributions may be tax-deductible in the year you make them.
- Earnings grow tax-deferred until withdrawal.
- Withdrawals in retirement are taxed as ordinary income.
- Required minimum distributions (RMDs) begin at age 73.
Roth IRA
- Best for members who expect to be in a higher tax bracket in retirement, or who want tax-free income later.
- Contributions are made with after-tax dollars – no upfront deduction.
- Earnings grow tax-free.
- Qualified withdrawals in retirement are 100% tax-free.
- No required minimum distributions during the owner’s lifetime.
For Traditional IRAs, penalty-free withdrawals are generally available at age 59½. For Roth IRAs, contributions (not earnings) can typically be withdrawn at any time without penalty; earnings are penalty-free at 59½ if the account has been open for at least five years. Exceptions exist for disability, first-time home purchases, and other qualifying events.
Yes. DFCU can help you roll over eligible employer-sponsored retirement accounts into an IRA. Contact our team to walk through the process and avoid any tax or penalty issues.

Personal Vehicle Loans
Dealer financing is arranged through the dealership and often includes a markup over the actual loan rate. Financing through DFCU means you’re working directly with your lender. You can also get pre-approved at DFCU before visiting the dealer, so you know your rate and budget before you negotiate.
DFCU offers auto loans for new and used cars, boat loans, and RV loans – all with competitive rates, flexible terms, and annual Cash Back on qualifying balances.* We also offer refinance and lease buyout options.
Yes. If you financed your vehicle elsewhere, you can refinance with DFCU. Refinancing can lower your interest rate, reduce your monthly payment, or both. The process is straightforward — contact a DFCU loan officer or apply online to get started.

Yes, DFCU offers members the purchase of GAP coverage. This coverage is designed to cancel the gap between what your insurance settlement pays and what you owe on your vehicle loan, up to the contract maximums, in the event your vehicle is stolen or totaled in an accident.
Here’s how it works:
- Easy enrollment – simply apply at the time you take out a loan with us.
- Convenient payment options – A one-time price for the life of your loan may be added to your monthly consumer loan payments.
- $599 for auto loans.
- $599 for power sport, watercraft, or recreational vehicle loans.
- GAP cancels $1,000 of a new loan financed with us within 120 days after the primary insurance company issues its check for a replacement vehicle when a total loss occurs.
- GAP with deductible assistance on our auto loans provides protection in the event of an accident where your vehicle is not a total loss.
- GAP is fully refundable if you cancel the protection within the first 90 days of your loan closing – why not purchase GAP?
Your purchase of MEMBER’S CHOICE™ Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) is optional and will not affect your application for credit or the terms of any credit agreement you have with Us. Certain eligibility requirements, conditions, and exclusions may apply. You will receive the contract before you are required to pay for GAP. You should carefully read the contract for a full explanation of the terms. If you choose GAP, adding the GAP fee to your loan amount will increase the cost of GAP. You may cancel GAP at any time. If you cancel GAP within 90 days you will receive a full refund of any fee paid. DP, GAP-2101893.1-0418-0520.

Personal Home Equity Loans
A fixed-rate home equity loan gives you one lump sum with a fixed interest rate and a fixed monthly payment — a good fit when you know exactly what you need to borrow. A HELOC is a revolving line of credit with a variable rate; you draw funds as you need them, up to your credit limit, and only pay interest on what you use.
In many cases, interest may be tax-deductible if the funds are used to buy, build, or substantially improve the home securing the loan. Tax rules vary by situation, so members should talk to a tax advisor to see how it applies to them.
Applying involves a credit check, which can cause a small, temporary dip in your score. Making on-time payments afterward can help build your credit over time.
Yes. Neither option carries a prepayment penalty, so members can pay down or pay off their balance anytime without an extra fee.
Personal Credit Cards
DFCU Platinum Mastercard® is a membership benefit, so you’ll need to be a DFCU Financial member (or become one) before applying. If you’re not yet a member, you can open a share savings account online, by phone, or at a branch in just a few minutes, then apply for your card right after.
Your rate switches to your standard variable APR, which ranges from 12.90% to 18.00% based on your creditworthiness. That standard rate applies to both purchases and any remaining balance transfer amount once the six-month introductory period is over.
Yes. The 5.99% introductory APR applies to balance transfers as well as purchases during your first six months as a new cardholder. Moving a balance over during that window is one of the more member-friendly ways to pay down higher-interest debt from another card.
Your credit limit is based on factors like your income, existing credit history, and your overall relationship with DFCU Financial. It’s set during the application process, so the limit you’re approved for is tailored to your individual financial picture rather than a flat number for every cardholder.
CardCMD lets you monitor your DFCU Financial credit and debit cards. It also lets you control dependent purchases, and even lock your cards if they’re lost or stolen.

Personal Loans
DFCU Financial personal loans can be used for almost any legitimate personal expense – including debt consolidation, home improvements, major purchases, medical bills, moving expenses, weddings, or unexpected costs. Personal loans cannot be used for business purposes or post-secondary education expenses.
A personal loan gives you a fixed lump sum upfront, with a set repayment term and a fixed monthly payment. A line of credit lets you draw funds as needed up to a set limit — similar to a credit card. Personal loans are better for one-time expenses with a known cost. Lines of credit are better for ongoing or variable needs. Talk to a DFCU member advisor to find the right fit.
Yes, DFCU members with qualifying accounts may receive annual Cash Back on loans, which has been paid every year since 2007. While Cash Back is based on your overall relationship with DFCU, maintaining your membership and accounts in good standing helps maximize your Cash Back.*
DFCU offers unsecured personal lines of credit for qualified members, meaning no collateral is required. Your approval is based on your credit worthiness and membership standing. If you’d like a lower rate, a secured option – backed by your DFCU savings or share certificate – may also be available.
A share loan uses your existing DFCU savings account or share certificate as collateral, meaning the funds you’ve already deposited secure the loan on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Because the loan is secured, it typically comes with a lower interest rate than an unsecured personal loan.
DFCU serves members across Michigan and Florida, with branches in communities including the greater Detroit area, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Brighton, and additional locations throughout the state, as well as branches in the Tampa Bay area, Fort Myers, Naples, Orlando, and surrounding communities. - Document Retention: Print or download a copy of your documents for your records.
Wires submitted Monday–Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET are typically processed the same day; anything after hours or on a weekend goes out the next business day. A fee applies to outgoing wires (see our current Fee Schedule), and the receiving or any intermediary bank may charge its own fee. We can’t guarantee same-day posting once funds reach the other institution.
Pause before you send. If a deal seems too good to be true, or someone is pressuring you to wire funds quickly, stop and verify. If instructions change suddenly by email, confirm with the beneficiary using a known phone number – not one provided in that email. We’ll always call you back to confirm a remotely submitted wire before it’s sent.

Business Loans & Lines of Credit
While you can submit an initial inquiry or application as a non-member, you must establish a DFCU Financial Business Account and maintain membership prior to loan closing and disbursement. Membership is open to businesses operating within DFCU’s service regions across Michigan and Florida.
Generally, business loan applications require:
- Tax Returns: 2–3 years of personal and business tax returns.
- Financial Statements: Year-to-date Profit & Loss (P&L) statement and Balance Sheet.
- Debt Schedule: An itemized schedule of current business debts and liabilities.
- Personal Financial Statement (PFS): Required for all business owners with 20% or greater equity.
- Business Documents: Articles of Incorporation, Operating Agreement, or business license.
Most business financing options – including SBA loans, equipment financing, and commercial lines of credit – require personal guarantees from primary business owners (typically anyone owning 20% or more of the company). Depending on the loan type and amount, collateral such as equipment, business accounts receivable, inventory, or real estate may also be pledged to secure the loan.
Approval timing varies by loan type and complexity. As an SBA Preferred Lender, DFCU Financial can offer an expedited SBA approval process; conventional loans and lines of credit are evaluated locally, which can speed up decision-making.
Interest rates can be fixed or variable and are determined by your business’s financial history, credit profile, loan amount, and the specific loan product chosen. Repayment terms vary by solution:
- Lines of Credit: Typically structured as revolving accounts renewed annually.
- Equipment & Working Capital: Terms usually range from 3 to 10 years.
- Commercial Real Estate & SBA 504 Loans: Terms up to 25 years with long-term fixed rate structures available.
DFCU offers flexible funding tailored to businesses of all sizes – from small working capital lines to major commercial development financing. Maximum loan limits depend on the product type (for example, SBA 7(a) loans allow up to $5 million, while SBA 504 loans can accommodate larger real estate project costs).

Treasury Management & Merchant Services
Positive Pay compares every check presented for payment against the checks your business issued, flagging any mismatch as an exception for your review. ACH Positive Pay does the same for electronic transactions, using a list of approved parties you control. You decide whether flagged transactions are paid or returned.
Deposit Capture lets your business scan and deposit checks electronically from your office instead of making a trip to a branch. It’s built for businesses that receive a steady stream of paper checks and want those funds available faster, without the time cost of in-person deposits.
Yes. We process wire transfers. Wire transfer authorization requests may also be made in person at any DFCU Financial branch location. Wire transfers are processed Monday-Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm EST. Wire transfers requested after processing hours or on the weekend will be processed on the next business day.
ACH payments typically process within one to two business days, though exact timing depends on when a payment is submitted relative to the day’s processing cutoff. A DFCU treasury specialist can confirm current cutoff times and processing windows.
A Zero Balance Account, or ZBA, automatically sweeps funds between a main account and one or more subaccounts so each subaccount ends the day at zero. It’s built for businesses running multiple accounts – by department, location, or purpose – that want centralized control over cash without having to manually move money between accounts every day.
Insurance
Payment Protection cancels or reduces your loan payment if a covered life event – like disability, involuntary unemployment, or death – keeps you from working. Mechanical Repair Coverage pays for eligible vehicle repairs after your factory warranty expires.
DFCU partners with MHA and TruStage to offer group discount rates on auto and home insurance. Group buying power typically gets members a better rate than shopping on their own.
Apply at the time you take out a loan. There’s no separate application, and the cost can be added to your monthly loan payment.
Yes. Loan Payment Protection can be canceled at any time, with a full refund if canceled within 30 days. GAP can be canceled at any time, with a full refund if canceled within 90 days of your loan closing.
Title Services
Title insurance is the modern method of real estate title protection. A policy of title insurance protects the insured against a partial or total loss arising out of defects, liens, and encumbrances in the title to real estate.
Any interest in land must be recorded in the public records if the holder of that interest wants to be protected. Once it has been so recorded, all subsequent parties are presumed to know of its existence, since it is on the public record for all to see. Therefore, the public records must be thoroughly searched in order to determine the ownership of any piece of land at any given time, and in order to know whether there are any mortgages, liens or other encumbrances outstanding against it.
Out of millions of documents on record, it is imperative that a prospective buyer or lender find all those which affect the title to his/her particular parcel.
A Title Agency can make a thorough search of the records in a fraction of the time it would take a layman and certify their findings to the prospective buyer or lender
An Owner’s Policy protects the interest of the owner of real estate and lists the name(s) of the new buyer as the insured party. As the new buyer, you will want assurance from the seller that the title is marketable and free of liens that could create problems if you decide to sell or refinance the property in the future.
A Mortgage Policy protects the interest of the mortgage lender and lists the lender as the insured party. All lenders require the borrower to provide proof and assurance that the loan being applied for will be in the correct lien position.
The difference is that the Owner’s Policy is always in the full face amount thereof and continues as long as the owner or his/her heirs have an interest in the property, while the Mortgage Policy protection terminates immediately when the loan is paid off. NOTE: In this area, it is customary for the seller to incur the cost of the Owner’s Policy and the buyer to incur the cost of the Mortgage Policy.
The cost depends upon the face amount of the policy issued. Only one premium is paid, and the protection lasts as long as the insured has any interest in the property. When an Owner’s Policy and Mortgage Policy are issued simultaneously on the same land, special reduced rates are applicable.
Your title policy will protect you against any defects, not excluded from the coverage of the policy, which cause actual loss or unmarketability of title. Such defects include errors in description, errors in searching the public records, unpaid taxes, legal incompetency of parties, fraud, forgery, outstanding dower rights, defects in the execution of instruments, and many others.
Under the terms of your title insurance policy, the title insurance company will, at its own expense, defend you against any adverse claims or legal action arising out of any encumbrance or other defect insured against, and will also indemnify you against any loss resulting therefrom up to the face amount of the policy.
Yes. The title insurance policy does not take the place of legal counsel. In every real estate transaction, there are many matters not covered by your policy that require the advice of an attorney. The coverage of the policy itself, and the specific exclusions therefrom, your rights and obligations as a seller or purchaser, the tax consequences of your transaction—these and many other issues should all be fully discussed and explained by a qualified attorney.

Cash Back Program*
Each year, DFCU’s Board of Directors reviews the credit union’s financial performance and decides how much to share with members through Cash Back. If you meet the eligibility criteria, your Cash Back is deposited directly into your account – no application needed.
Eligibility depends on your age and your average yearly balance across eligible deposit and loan accounts. Members 26 and older need an average yearly balance of $5,000; members 18-25 need $1,000; members under 18 need $100. Your age is based on December 31 of the prior year, and you must be a member on the Cash Back deposit date.
Your estimated Cash Back is 0.25% of the average monthly balance across your eligible accounts, based on one full calendar year of membership beginning in January. If your relationship with DFCU Financial started in a different month, your amount will vary.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a login security step that requires two different types of proof before you can get into an account, usually something you know (like a password) plus something you have (like a code sent to your phone) or something you are (like a fingerprint).
For online banking or credit union accounts specifically, 2FA is especially useful because it protects the accounts where real money moves. A stolen password without 2FA can mean immediate access to your funds; with 2FA turned on, a criminal would also need your phone or device, which raises the bar significantly.
NCUA Coverage
The NCUSIF provides all members of federally insured credit unions with $250,000 in coverage for their single ownership accounts. These accounts include regular shares, share drafts (similar to checking), money market accounts, and share certificates. Individuals with account balances totaling $250,000 or less at the same insured credit union are fully insured.
If a person has more than $250,000 at any single credit union, several options are available for additional share insurance coverage because, as discussed in greater detail (right), the NCUSIF provides separate insurance for other accounts.
Members have full NCUSIF coverage at each federally insured credit union where they are qualified members. While the NCUSIF coverage protects members at all federally insured credit unions from losses on a broad spectrum of savings and share draft products, it does not cover losses on money invested in mutual funds, stocks, bonds, life insurance policies, and annuities offered by affiliated entities.
All members of federally insured credit unions have coverage options separate from, and in addition to, those available for their single ownership accounts.
RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS
Members with traditional and Roth Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and KEOGH retirement accounts at federally insured credit unions have additional coverage available at each federally insured credit union where they qualify and become members. The NCUSIF insures traditional and Roth IRAs for $250,000 in the aggregate at each credit union. Additionally, the NCUA insures KEOGH accounts separately up to $250,000 at each credit union.
Retirement account insurance protection is separate from insurance coverage for other credit union accounts. For example, if you have a regular share account, an IRA, and a KEOGH at the same credit union, the NCUSIF insures the regular share account for up to $250,000, the IRA for up to an additional $250,000, and the KEOGH for up to an additional $250,000.
JOINT ACCOUNTS
Joint accounts are owned by two or more people who have equal rights to withdraw money from the account, and no beneficiaries are named. These accounts can include regular shares, share drafts (similar to checking), money market accounts, and share certificates. The NCUSIF provides each joint account holder with $250,000 coverage for their aggregate interests at each federally insured credit union. For example, a two-person joint account with no beneficiaries has $500,000 in coverage. This coverage is separate from and in addition to the coverage available for other accounts, such as individual accounts with no beneficiaries and retirement accounts.
TRUST ACCOUNTS
The NCUSIF provides separate coverage for both revocable and irrevocable trusts. Credit unions can establish a common informal revocable trust payable-on-death account without additional documentation; however, some trusts require additional, valid documentation to qualify for coverage. While this brochure briefly discusses how the NCUSIF insures trusts, members should consult appropriate professionals to properly establish and document trust arrangements.
REVOCABLE TRUSTS
Revocable trust accounts may qualify for insurance coverage of up to $250,000 per beneficiary named by the owner (if a member of the credit union) that is separate from the individual coverage available to the trust owner (also referred to as grantor or settlor). For example, if a person with a revocable trust for $750,000 names a spouse and two children as beneficiaries, the entire $750,000 would have separate NCUSIF coverage ($250,000 per beneficiary). This coverage is separate from the coverage provided to the other types of accounts held by the trust’s owner at the same federally insured credit union.
IRREVOCABLE TRUSTS
Irrevocable trusts have separate coverage based on the beneficial interest. The interest of each beneficiary in an account (or accounts) established as an irrevocable trust has separate NCUSIF coverage of up to $250,000. In cases where a beneficiary has an interest in more than one trust arrangement created by the same owner, the beneficiary’s interests in all accounts established under such trusts are aggregated for insurance purposes and insured for a total of up to $250,000.
